Any Repairs or Errors on the site?

Postby Corvin » Wed Sep 27, 2017 6:09 am

Any Repairs or Errors on the site that need fixing or re/written info?

EDIT: How about anything wanted to be added to the site or something else?

EDIT2: I enjoy working on the site for the most part, having everything well organized and archived like I do helps people. The people (you) are what I use to be like, working on and playing with BUILD Games. I still do work on them, but I hardly play anymore, unless its for work on the site or to help someone out. I'm basically asking here to gauge interest in RTCMs update progress; I'm needing to know what people want from RTCM, if there's little interest, I can for now, direct my attention to something other than RTCM or if there something someone wants improved, I can work on RTCM some more.

I still can use volunteers to send me information and tools, or just details on something they experienced related to the BUILD Games and what would help other people. Posting in the forum is preferred, but I don't mind e-mails. I don't vist many sites anymore, just a handful of quality ones (not to say all the sites I link on the BUILD Community Links are not of quality) but I visit where the people are kind and truly helpful.
You'll find the link buttons across the top of my site are just that. Those people tend to have truly helpful ethics and desires, rather than not. ;)

Anyway, please let me know.

Well, I'd say you have a rather complete collection for the Build games here. I would think it would be good if you just keep your eye out for anything new to upload to the site and I always enjoy reading the RTCM news. Even if I don't post in the forum much, I usually visit the forum and site atleast 5 or more times a week.

Keep up the good work Corvin, your long time dedication to these games has been greatly appreciated.

I still know there is more I can post about information, aw well.
The response is slow and few so I guess I'll limit my work habit for RTCM and concentrate on other projects I enjoy too, then.
Thanks for the input BTW, Robman.

About latest news on the site (I hope this is a right topic for that).
Corvin if you want to rearrange site contents please make sure to keep redirects from the old pages.
For example if you change document name (link) it would be nice to keep a redirect from the old one. Because this will keeps old links on the external sites alive.
As for forum sorry I can't help much but hope other people do.

Hey, Its okay about forum. I guess people don't want to post , probably too concerned what others will think, especially about posting answers to my questions:)

About redirects pages, I could try that in the future, but I wouldn't keep the redirect up long, maybe a week.
I do update all my internal links where I remember....if that helps if you look at the site navigation with fresh eyes.

I personally don't have much interest in BUILD so I'm not really following any news in the community (except this RTCM site).

About redirects I can share some experience that I have. The most important thing is that if you change your site page link (rename, move, etc.) all old links on any other sites will be invalid. Some people fix links that they post (like me), but most of them didn't or can't (as example: some archive site you can't edit). This will cause people who follow old links to examine whole site to figure out a new page location. There are two major issues with that:
1) Some people who find 404 page instead of the original one thinks that this page was deleted and never bother to check out the main site (I was always amazed how this simple thing (checking root site) was not obvious to a lot of people).
2) There is also posibillity that people may have hard time to find new page location or even didn't find it at all (and don't worry - it's not because of the site layout, it's just some people don't very familiar with the Internet surfing).
Once in the past I moved few pages on my site and got a lot of hits on their old URL so I was forced to add permanent redirects to help those who still follow old links from some sites on the Internet.
Based on my personal experience I can suggest few things:
a) Think very careful about new article link, so you don't have to change it in near future.
b) If some old article was moved - you should always put a redirect page to the new location.
Of course you can rename anything and don't bother with the redirection pages (for example in case you completely change the whole site structure or the page you're moving very rare viewed, etc.) but keep in mind that this may affect some of the visitors.

I totally understand. Thanks for the help and tips.....

I move things around sometimes and I could see the problem, even moving the site to different URLs. My site must have had 8 or more URLS not counting the friendly shortcut urls I use to use to reach special folks.

The best I can do these days is provide a Warning redirect page and I will remove it in aprox a weeks time. That's the best I can do. Its just something to slow me down to do it, but I'll try to remember.

I don't suggest anyone to link to anything with-in my site as it can be moved without notice. Unless someone contacts me, which has happen in the past. I just make arrangements to accommodate them briefly.
Are you currently linking to any page specifically with-in the site right now?

Yes, at the Exhumed / PowerSlave page, but I can fix it if needed.
I mostly concerned about other sites (as example) which contains the links to your site too.

ugh, not really reference link, just a hidden link sorta. Nice bit of info on the page though, should help out.

EDIT:
I was referring to the page that you linked in your last post. Not very helpful to RTCM since its a hidden link......
